Student Housing

International Students at SCC have two housing choices. Students may apply to participate in our Homestay Program, or arrange to use Rental Housing.

Homestay Program

The Homestay Program offers you the opportunity to improve your communication skills, experience American culture on a personal and daily basis, and build a long-term relationship with an American family. Our families have been carefully chosen and are as varied as our culture, including nuclear families, single parents, young couples, retirees and singles.

We offer three homestay choices:

• Full Homestay
  The student lives with a homestay family for at least one quarter. The family provides the student with all meals and a private, furnished bedroom. The cost is $550 for four weeks, plus a $200 one-time placement fee.
• Shared Homestay
  The student lives with a homestay family for at least one quarter. The family provides the student with a private, furnished bedroom but the student purchases and prepares all his or her own meals. The cost is $350 for four weeks, plus a $200.00 one-time placement fee.
• Temporary Homestay
  The student lives with a homestay family and the family provides meals, a private, furnished bedroom and help in locating an apartment. The cost is $350 for two weeks, plus a $200 one-time placement fee.

Each plan includes the cost of electricity, heat, use of the family phone for local phone calls and laundry facilities in the home. There is no extra cost for these. To apply for a homestay, please complete both pages of the Homestay Application, sign and mail to the address indicated on the application. Rental Housing

A common housing option is to rent an apartment. There are several privately owned apartments located near to SCC. Students living there can walk to classes and bus service is very close. These apartments are in great demand. In addition to the apartments located near SCC, there are many other places to rent within the Spokane area.

There is a Web site that lists available rental apartments and houses in Spokane.

Go to: http://www.apartmentbluebook.com. This Web site allows you to search for apartments based on criteria that you select, including number of bedrooms, your price range, or the are of the city you would like to live in. Once you have completed your search you are able to click on one of the apartments listed to find more information about it.
