Horticulture Club
Do you like being outdoors working with trees, turf, flowers, and shrubs? How about working on landscaping projects
such as building decks, walls, and patios or designing/installing gardens and yards? Do greenhouses interest you? Do
you like to compete? If you answered yes to any of these questions, be sure to check out the SCC Horticulture Club.
We plan and implement on-going landscape projects for campus beautification. We do projects in the greenhouse. We
invite guest speakers to visit SCC and talk about a wide range of Hort-related topics such as native plants, tree
care, landscape design, etc. Members of the club can also qualify to compete at the PLANET (Professional Landcare
Network) National Student Career Days Competition which is held at interesting locations around the U.S. each year
(Provo, UT in 2006!). Competing against 80-90 two and four year universities, our members have consistently placed
in the upper third of contestants. You don't need to worry about travel costs because the club covers most of these
through fund raisers and support from Student Activities.
Membership is free and open to SCC students interested in
horticulture. For more information, contact Bob Peregoy at (509) 533-7258.
