Office of Campus Safety at SCC
    History

Spokane Community College's Security Office was a one man show up until 1995, when the decision was made to integrate the Criminal Justice program with Security. Prior to this decision, parking on campus was the most hectic that it had ever been as there was only one person on campus for part of the day to enforce parking rules. Also, prior to the integration there was no one available to provide aid to students who had locked their keys in their cars, those who needed jumpstarts, or those who needed escort assistance.

Since then, the Security Office has consisted of on average 20-25 student security officers and office support staff. These individuals are work-study students from the Criminal Justice program who work part-time between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All other hours are currently being contracted with State Protective Services.

In July of 2006, the Security Office welcomed Charlie Hollen as the new full-time permanent campus security sergeant. Soon afterward, in November 2006, Jovonna Dunbar was hired on as Mr. Hollen's program assistant. In July of 2008 retired Spokane Police Chief Roger Bragdon was hired on as a Security Analyst. In June of 2010 we welcomed our very first full time campus security officer, Tyler B. Ables.

As of July 2010, the Security Office began its transition into the Office of Campus Safety, which includes Security, Emergency Management and Parking Services, under the supervision of Charlie Hollen (Campus Security and Safety Supervisor).

In the near future, the Security Office hopes to hire even more full-time staff to eliminate the need for contract security. The office will continually be hiring work-study students to provide daily security on campus.
