Media Services
Resources for Students
Spokane Community College Media Services has added valuable new resume software to all of its open lab
computers and student check-out laptops!
Computers: 30 Windows XP computers are available in the Media Lab for general use by students on a first-come, first-served basis.
All machines are loaded with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. They are also networked to other computer labs on
campus. The computers have network access to two laser printers. Students are requested to provide their valid student ID cards to use the computers.
Group rooms: Six study/viewing rooms are available for students who wish to watch media presentations together. All are equipped
with video capabilities. Other media equipment such as audio cassette recorders and slide projectors are available for those rooms. While students are encouraged to
use the rooms for media-related activities, they are available for general group study. Additional rooms, which are not media-equipped, are available in the Library.
Instructional Media Lab: The Media Lab within Instructional Services is devoted to providing students, faculty, and staff access
to alternative information sources and technology-related resources. The lab consists of a general viewing area with videocassette/DVD players and monitors, computers, service desk,
media equipment services, and a number of small group study/preview rooms. The lab also includes a secure testing center that consists of 20 seats for pencil and paper exams.
In addition, 11 computer testing stations are available on a limited basis. The Testing Center is used extensively by CCS telecourse, online, and other educational institution
students throughout the academic year. The Testing Center also administers high stakes certification exams through LaserGrade and ACT.
(However, we do not administer the ACT National College Admissions Exam.) Lab hours are available online.
The Presentation Zone: A semi-enclosed 300-square foot presentation area designed for the development and practice of group presentations
is available for teams of students who need a place to hone their group projects. This area includes a PC computer with Microsoft PowerPoint, a media projector,
projection screen, white board, study table, and chairs and sofa seating for six. Use of the Presentation Zone is scheduled by appointment at our front counter.
Internet Access: The Media Lab provides 30 Internet stations for students to use on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional Internet stations
are available in the Library. Email access is available only with private student accounts. A printer is networked to the Internet stations
for the students to use. Students are requested to provide their valid student ID cards to use the Internet stations. Our entire building serves as a Wi-Fi hot spot.
Convenient study tables with nearby electrical outlets in the lab make it a quiet and comfortable place to surf the Web.
Media Equipment Check Out: Camcorders, digital cameras, laptop computers, media projectors and
other equipment are available to students for 48 hour checkout on a first-come, first-served basis. Equipment check
out is for course related projects only. Students must provide a student ID along with the course, project and instructor name.
