Deciding Your Path

SCC offers five different types of degree program and many shorter-term certificate programs. The academic pathway you choose will depend on your academic and career goals, and on the amount of time you would like to devote to your college education.

  • If you want to earn a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or doctorate, your academic program begins with an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree.
  • If you want to complete your education in just two years, you may wish to pursue our Associate of Applied Sciences (A.A.S.) degree.

University Transfer Program

Spokane Community College has a student population of 5,500. Most of these students will earn the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree (the transfer degree), and transfer to a college or university to complete their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees. See SCC's list of transfer programs for more information.

The transfer process is easy, and our SCC Transfer Center will help. Plus, many of the region's colleges and universities visit our campus regularly for consultations with interested students.

Consider SCC to be the start of your pathway to academic success.

Career and Technical Education

Many students choose to study in one of our career and technical programs. SCC offers a wide range of program choices, including programs in allied health, environmental sciences, computer information systems, and many other fields of study. See SCC's list of career and technical programs for more information.

These are either certificate programs (one year in duration) or degree programs (two years in duration). The degree programs lead to the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree.

Internships

When international students complete an academic program at SCC, they are eligible to work in the United States for up to one year. This has many advantages for international students:

  • English proficiency continues to improve while working in America.
  • Students have the opportunity to apply their college education to practical work experience.
  • Students can work anywhere in America – a great chance to further experience the American culture.
  • These are usually PAID positions.
