HVAC/R
Instructors
Steve Sherman is one of the instructors and he is also a graduate of the program. He comments,
"We emphasize hands-on learning and that's the nature of the trade."
Sherman is an experienced teacher that has worked in the field for two decades. He takes great satisfaction in his role. "The quarter
starts with blank faces, and then the eyes start to light up as we cover the material and they begin to learn and become confident
with their newly acquired skills."
Instructor Mike Coutts echoes that sentiment: "We have versatile
facilities that we regularly upgrade to keep up with new technologies. The lectures and labs are scheduled so we can quickly apply what
we've talked about. That's vital, because in this field, you can read about it all you like, but once you've done it, then it really
sticks with you."
Coutts points with pride to the HVAC lab. "The college has invested in new,
industry-standard trainers to make the program one of the best in the region. That has given us a comprehensive practical facility
that introduces almost everything in the trade. The computer and DDC controls lab give us the opportunity to train our students with
state of the art technology."

"The SCC HVAC/R program is one of the most comprehensive and best in the region. They do
an excellent job at training students to enter the field."
