Program Description
The field of environmental horticulture pertains to floriculture, landscape design and maintenance, and greenhouse
and nursery management. This program provides a study of ornamental plant materials, plant propagation, and
nursery and greenhouse management methods.
At the completion of the second year, the student may receive the associate in applied science degree.

Program Goals
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Identify the major ornamental plants used in Washington State and know their landscape potential.
- Diagnose basic causes of plant problems (i.e., insect, disease, chemical, mechanical) and suggest appropriate remedies.
- Apply basic growing, planting and maintenance practices to greenhouse, container and field grown stock during the course of a year.
- Apply the basic concepts of greenhouse management to a commercial greenhouse business.
- Apply basic techniques of sexual and asexual plant propagation in the commercial production of plants.
Career Opportunities
Potential positions include: Greenhouse manager, nursery manager, retail sales manager, plant propagator, etc.
