Florist/Floral Design Certificate/A.A.S. Degree
Program Description
The field of environmental horticulture pertains to floriculture, landscape design and maintenance, and greenhouse
and nursery management. This program provides a study of ornamental plant materials, plant propagation and
retail sales of cut flowers and potted plants. At the completion of the second year, the student may receive the
associate in applied science degree.
The floral certificate provides a study of floral arrangement techniques and retail sales methods of cut flowers and
potted plants. Students must enter in the fall quarter in order to finish three quarters.

Program Goals
Students who successfully complete this program will be able to:
- Apply the basic concepts of floral design and management to a commercial florist business.
- Apply basic growing and maintenance practices to greenhouse and container grown stock during the course of the year.
- Identify the major ornamental plants used in Washington State and know their landscape potential.
Career Opportunities
Potential positions include: Floral designer, greenhouse manager, retail sales manager, etc.
