Cosmetology
Instructors
Sylvia Garcia is an instructor in the program and holds a Washington vocational teaching certificate and
instructor licenses for cosmetology, barbering, manicuring, and esthetics. Ms. Garcia is chair of the
Cosmetology department. She graduated with an AAS degree and was licensed as an SCC graduate in 1980. In addition, Ms.
Garcia has an Instructor training certificate from Dudley's Advanced Training Academy, certificates from Dermologica,
NSI, Look Good Feel Good, and So Cap Hair Extensions. She has completed the Redken Specialist and Master training as well.
Ms. Garcia is a current member of the Cosmetology, Barbering, Manicuring and Esthetic Advisory Board for the state of
Washington.

Cindy Martinez is an instructor in the program, she holds a Washington instructor
license in the areas of Cosmetology, Barbering, Manicuring and Esthetics. She also is licensed in Idaho as an
instructor. Mrs. Martinez has been in the industry for more than 32 years and is an owner/operator of her own salon.
Mrs. Martinez has completed the Redken Specialist and Master classes, is certified in So Cap hair extensions, and has
been an educator for Redken. Mrs. Martinez is also a recently certified Redken Haircolor Specialist.

Patricia Maxfield is an instructor in the program and has been working in the industry for more than
25 years, barbering for the first 5 years and then acquiring an AAS in cosmetology at SCC in 1982. In 1989, Ms.
Maxfield completed her instructor training along with her vocational certification and has been continuously licensed,
practicing, and teaching in Washington State. She is licensed as an instructor in cosmetology, manicuring, barbering,
and esthetics. Mrs. Maxfield has completed her Redken Specialist and Master training and is certified in So Cap Hair
Extensions.

Deanna Pixley is an instructional technician. Mrs. Pixley holds her instructor's license in
cosmetology, barbering, manicuring, and esthetics. She has an AAS degree from SCC; she graduated in 1998.
Mrs. Pixley has completed the Redken Specialist and Master training; she is certified in So Cap Hair Extensions
and also has advanced training in hair color and cutting techniques. Mrs. Pixley has owned and operated her own
salon in the Spokane area for many years. Mrs. Pixley is also a recently certified Redken Haircolor Specialist.

Alicia Preston is the office assistant to the program. Mrs. Preston is originally from Reno, NV and began
working at SCC in 2011. She is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the salon. Mrs. Preston is the person to contact if
you would like to schedule an appointment or have questions regarding pricing, services
offered, or hours of operation.
