Both of my academic degrees help answer the question why are we the way we are? Imagine my surprise to realize what I
learned was not only fascinating, but useful! Being a teacher seems only natural - to share the insights, the questions, and
the love of learning. I began teaching at SCC in 1994. I most often teach Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal
Communication, and Introduction to Communication. I most enjoy seeing students discover that communication truly has the
power to change lives.

I enjoy developing new curriculum to meet students' needs especially in the area of cultural understanding. Assisting new
English Language Learners in their acquisition of our language pronunciation is a specialty. I have traveled to other parts
of the world sharing the joys of learning American English. I authored the text Getting & Keeping the Job, 2nd ed.
I have served as Past President of the Spokane Sister Cities Association and was a previous board member for the Christian
Youth Theatre (CYT).

I joined the staff at Spokane Community College in 1986 instructing classes in Speech Communication, Leadership Development,
Interpersonal Communication, and Job Communication Skills. Due to professional obligations as an attorney and mediator, my
classes are usually the ones offered in the early morning or during the evening hours. My passion for teaching comes from a
core belief that students deserve every opportunity to succeed while being given the opportunity to express themselves
effectively and creatively.
