Carpentry and Cabinetry
Introduction

If working with your hands, using an array of power tools, and watching raw material turn into a finished product interests you, then SCC's
carpentry and cabinetry program is what you are looking for. There is a special sense of accomplishment in knowing that what you have created
will be around for generations to come. Students enrolled in the two-year A.A.S. degree program are introduced to all phases of material
estimation, trade terminology, construction practices, and cabinetry design and assembly. Best of all, we believe that a "hands-on" approach
is the best way to learn. On-site projects outside the typical classroom setting give students a realistic view of what industry expects from
our graduates. The rewards include work that is varied, exciting, and in demand. There is a nationwide shortage of skilled craftspersons.
Our offerings include a carpentry and cabinetry A.A.S. degree, a one-year certificate program, a
one-quarter basic cabinetry certificate program, and a two-quarter advanced cabinetry certificate program.

Our program boasts two spacious labs equipped with up-to-date machinery that prepares graduates for what they will find in the industry.
We've been able to upgrade and maintain these facilities in spite of reduced state equipment budgets thanks to:
- donations from the Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation,
- Workforce and WorkFirst grants, and
- Carl Perkins funding.
The two labs are connected by a 500 square foot spray room where students are trained on a new HVLP (high volume, low pressure) spray system
that applies water-based lacquer finishes. The theory portion of the course takes place in a well-lit classroom adjoining the first year lab.
Storage of student projects and materials is provided through indoor lumber racks and outdoor storage buildings.
