Medical Office Receptionist
Certificate, 42 credits, 3 quarters
Spokane is a major regional center for medical care offering maximum opportunities for employment. Positions are available in medical
clinics, medical insurance companies, and private physicians' offices. This three-quarter certificate provides students with skills
in patient reception, medical office computing, terminology, anatomy, office procedures, human relations, and communication.
Students may continue on with further training toward the
Medical Office Billing and Coding Specialist certificate or the
Medical Office Specialist degree (A.A.S.).
During their last quarter, students complete a 99-hour medical reception internship in a medical facility in the Spokane area. Faculty
will assist students in finding internship sites.
Students who successfully complete this program are prepared to:
- Appropriately manage telephone communications and schedule office appointments as well as surgical and diagnostic procedures
- Receive patients and visitors
- Apply legal and ethical standards
- Apply knowledge of medical records management and health insurance including terminology and insurance documents
