Administrative Office Internships
Students apply their office and human relationship skills during this two-week
assignment at an area business. Internship sites are tailored to meet each student's needs
and to complement his/her program.
"SAFECO had the opportunity to work with an SCC student for two weeks earlier
this year. The time was mutually beneficial to both the student and SAFECO. The student
gained exposure to a corporate environment, observed workflows and utilized business
equipment and automation. The company gained extra help and a new perspective and
experience working with someone who could potentially be a candidate for employment. I
welcome the opportunity to host another student in the future. "On the job"
experience brings the office technology school curriculum to life for the student while
adding value to the business...it's a win-win!"

Legal Office Internships
Legal internships give students the opportunity to apply their office skills and human
relations skills during a two-week assignment at a law office or law-related office or
court. It is the goal of the legal office program to match internship sites to meet each
student's needs and complement his or her program.

"I feel that everything taught at SCC has proven to be beneficial in my internship and
in my career."
Jeannie Isaacson, Legal Assistant
Degree: A.A.S., Legal Secretary, 1995
"We are very pleased with our intern from Spokane Community College. She is
superb, and we hope to hire after her at the end of her internship. She had no prior
experience so her education at Spokane Community College was excellent preparation for
immediate employment."

Medical Office Internships

Students are placed in a local medical office for a minimum of 66 hours for the
purposes of observation and to give students an opportunity to utilize classroom skills in
a "real" medical office environment. The internship experience is enhanced by a
concurrent medical internship seminar where students spend time sharing office
experiences, problem solving and participating on a variety of career-related activities.
"[SCC] gave me contacts through my internship which led to my first
interview."
Sonja Owen, Provider Relations Coordinator
Degree: A.A.S., Medical Secretary, 1983
