Business Technology

Lou Dunham worked for 20 years in the financial services industry, with experience as a technical writer, trainer, and user-systems analyst. She has a master's degree in communications and a certificate in training and development.

Gayle W. Ekins, instructor for Grammar 90 and Business Communication, completed her BBA degree in Business and her MA degree in rhetoric, composition, and technical communication. She has been teaching at the college level since 2002. Before becoming a teacher in higher education, Mrs. Ekins had over 25 years' experience in business and finance. She has held a license as a C.P.A. since 1984.

Jo Farrell instructs Business Technology and Computer Application Technology/Training classes evenings and Saturdays. She has three bachelor's degrees, one in education, one in English, and one in psychology, with a heavy minor in mathematics. She worked in the secretarial field for several years and then as a judicial secretary and Registered Professional Reporter for 29 years, and occasionally as a part-time teacher. She has attended numerous professional courses in the fields of English, business, and technology.

MaryO E. Fury holds a master's degree in business education and is a certified WAOL instructor. Mrs. Fury has taught many of the online classes over the last several years and teaches only online classes at this time. She is retired from teaching full-time but enjoys traveling while teaching!

Lisa Graese, instructor for Medical Terminology/Anatomy 102, Disease Processes 103, Human Relations 120, and Medical Office Reception 121, comes to SCC with over 20 years of experience in the medical office environment. Before teaching at SCC, she worked in a variety of medical office positions including transcription, reception, surgery scheduling, and office coordination. Mrs. Graese has taught at SCC in the Medical Office Careers program since 2003. She is a certified medical transcriptionist and has a medical secretary certificate as well as an associate of arts degree.

Deby Hanson, instructor for Office Procedures and many computer-based courses, has been a Business Technology instructor for over 20 years. Mrs. Hanson holds Microsoft expert-level certification in Word and Excel, is certified in Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook, and is a certified WAOL instructor. Mrs. Hanson holds a master's degree in Business Education.

Colleen Kennedy, instructor for many Internet computer-based courses including FrontPage 2000, is MOUS certified at the expert level in both Microsoft Word 2000 and Microsoft Excel 2000 and is MOUS certified in PowerPoint 2000 and Access 2000. Mrs. Kennedy holds a master's degree in Instructional Technology.

Ronda Moorhead, instructor for many of the computer-based courses, has over 25 years of business office experience. She has a bachelor's degree in Administrative Office Management and a master's in Business and Marketing Education.

Sheri Renner, instructor for the online Business Communications 109, Business Correspondence 272, CATT 128 Desktop Publishing courses, and the Business English and Keyboarding classes, has a degree in English/Technical Communication and a master's in English/Composition and Rhetoric with a secondary emphasis in English as a Second Language. Mrs. Renner is a certified WAOL master instructor who has taught at SCC since 1992. She has 15 years of legal assistant and paralegal experience and 10 years of medical consulting.

Barbara Rielly, Legal Administrative Assistant instructor, worked as a certified court reporter and judicial secretary for 15 years before beginning her teaching career. Mrs. Rielly holds a master's degree in College Instruction. She has been a Legal Administrative Assistant instructor since 1992 and is a certified WAOL instructor. Mrs. Rielly also team teaches Integrated Business Entrepreneurship classes as part of the Center for Entrepreneurship.

Karen Saba, CPC, instructor for Medical Coding, Medical Bookkeeping, and Medical Insurance Billing, comes to SCC with over 25 years of medical office experience, both as Coding Specialist and Medical Office Manager. She is a Certified Professional Coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders.

Jane Scott instructs keyboarding, Grammar 90, and Computer Application Technology/Training (CATT) classes which include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access. She has been a member of the Business Technology department since 2004, is a certified WAOL instructor, and holds a master's in Professional-Technical and Technology Education.

Colleen Straight instructs Business Technology and CATT classes and has a degree in Administrative Management and a master's degree in Professional Training and Development. For over 30 years, Ms. Straight worked for the Washington State community college system in a variety of capacities, ranging from Executive Assistant to Manager of Institutional Research. She also served in several information technology capacities including software support, training, and managing a computer training program. Now, as an adjunct instructor, Straight enjoys her love of teaching while pursuing other interests such as woodworking and motorcycles.

Danene Wideman, instructor for the terminology and anatomy 101 course and the various levels of medical transcription, comes to SCC with over 25 years of medical office experience. She has been an instructor in the medical office careers area for 13 years. She is a certified medical transcriptionist and currently is the coordinator of the Medical Transcription program.
