8.  Cylinder Head Testing

Aluminum cylinder heads are nonferrous (and therefore not magnetic), so students cannot Magnaflux® them to detect cracks as with cast iron cylinder heads. Here, students pressure test an aluminum cylinder head to find leaks. Students also use this equipment to test the welds they have done in order to repair cracks in aluminum cylinder heads. After an aluminum cylinder head has been straightened in the kiln, it is also pressure tested.
