20.  Sonic Testing

In this picture, students use a sonic tester to check the cylinder wall thickness of an engine block. The digital readout shows the thickness of the cast iron at the spot where the probe is placed. The sonic tester can also scan the cylinder and detect the thinnest spot. Some modern engines have thin wall castings, so the oversize is limited.
